What is Ayurveda?
Ayurveda is a healing system that originated in India thousands of years ago. The word “Ayurveda” is made up of two Sanskrit words ‘Ayur’ that means ’life’ and ‘Veda’ that means ‘science’ or 'knowledge' of life. Apart from being a healing system it also provides guidance regarding our diets and our lifestyles that helps in keeping us healthy and in balance in our every day lives.
We become unhealthy through an imbalance of the humours of an individual’s body, the three doshas or vital energies of Vata, Pitta and Kapha. The balance of the three doshas is of vital importance in maintaining the health of an individual.
The three doshas are each made up of a combination of two of the five ‘great’ elements: space, air, fire, water and earth. It is our own combination of the three doshas that is responsible for our physical, mental and emotional makeup that makes each of us a unique individual. We need to identify and maintain our ‘prakriti’ (true nature/balance) to keep healthy. Any imbalance in our body or mind is called ‘vikriti’ which can be caused by incorrect diet, emotional imbalances, too much stress, and incorrect exercise.
Ayurveda is recognised by the World Health Organization, which supports research and integration of Ayurveda as part of a comprehensive modern medical approach to health. It’s ethos has been adopted by a host of A list celebrities including; Sting, Christy Turlington, Demi Moore, Richard Gere, Goldie Hawn, Barbra Streisand, and Elizabeth Taylor. Madonna is even said to have given birth using Ayurvedic techniques.
My aim is to help you re-establish your prakriti or balanced state or maintain wellbeing through authentic Ayurvedic treatments.
Lifestyle & Nutrition
Today's fast-paced world causes much stress and tension, which in turn cause imbalances in our Doshas. These imbalances can manifest as weight and skin problems, digestion disorders, headaches and many other health issues. According to Ayurveda, diet and exercise and yoga should be tailored to one's own individual constitution, metabolism and way of life. Breath work and meditation also play an important role in Ayurveda.
A consultation will help you discover your Ayurvedic body type, and ways to treat specific problems and the secrets to keeping it balanced.
Please note you do not have to have a full consultation when booking treatments.
Abhyanga
Massage is an important part of Ayurvedic therapy and is one of the deepest therapeutic massages you will experience. A free mini consultation precedes the treatment to establish you particular constitution, then warm Organic Ayurvedic massage oils (chosen to suit your particular constitution) are used and Ayurvedic marma massage techniques to invigorate, relax and help expel excess toxins from the body.
Treatments include Shirodhara forehead oil flow, head, face and neck massage followed by warm oils gently streamed over the forehead or third eye charka which helps to calm the nervous system, releasing endorphins which create a feeling of relaxation when the oil flows down through the scalp.

Weight loss
I had been steadily putting on weight for a long time, even though I had always eaten healthy foods, salads, chicken, fruit and vegetables, avoiding fatty foods. On my first visit to Kathy I was given advice on foods to avoid and those to introduce into my diet. Unlike a normal ‘diet’ where you feel that you are constantly missing out on the foods you enjoy and feeling hungry, I soon adapted to my new diet and I have to say enjoyed it.
After 2 weeks I had lost 7lbs and looked and felt so much better. People commented about how I looked so much better. I am continuing to steadily lose weight and also enjoy massage treatments to help with my weight and to remove toxins. I thoroughly recommend to anyone having a Ayurveda Lifestyle & Nutrition consultation.
